Valletta, Malta – January 22, 2024
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has issued a notice to all licensees regarding the Digital Services Act (DSA).
The DSA, which initially came into force on November 16, 2022, is set to become fully operational on February 17th, 2024.
The DSA sets out harmonised rules for a safe, predictable and trusted online environment that facilitates innovation, enables the prevention and swift removal of illegal content and in which fundamental rights enshrined in the Charter, including the principle of consumer protection, are effectively protected.
In response to this, the MGA is actively seeking information from its licensees to understand how the DSA rules will impact their operations. As part of the assessment process, the MGA will soon release a survey for licensees to provide insights into the application of DSA regulations within their companies.
Licensees are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the rules and obligations outlined in the DSA and assess their potential implications on the industry.
For further information and updates on the Digital Services Act, which may be found in user-friendly format here, licensees are advised to regularly check official channels provided by the Malta Gaming Authority.
As always, the IGA team is at your disposal for any queries you may have or any clarifications you may require.
